Impact of Human Rights Fellowship Experiences

A Celebration of Stories: Exploring the Face of Human Rights

Over thirty past and present interns, fellows, and friends of the Human Rights Center have been interviewed for this ongoing Reflection Project. By examining the role that the Human Rights Center has played in the stories of these individuals, the hope is to uncover a deeper understanding of the difference that a commitment to human rights has made in their lives. Through these individual stories, the project offers a window into the role of human rights in the past, present, and future of our world community.

This web page will also serve as a forum for exploring the myriad of possible careers in the field of human rights. By documenting the varied experiences of past Human Rights Fellows, the hope is to inspire a new generation of human rights advocates to find volunteer and career opportunities promoting human rights. The stories have been organized here into categories designed to make this process easier for new human rights advocates.

A wide variety of topics are covered in the interviews, but several questions were asked of all past Fellows, such as "What does the term 'human rights' mean to you", and "What advice would you have for someone interested in pursuing a career in human rights?"

Check back soon for updates!

This project is coordinated by Patrick Mcgroarty, a 2004 Upper Midwest Human Rights Fellowship recipient.
