Armenia Tree Project
ACTIVITIES
Armenia Tree Project (ATP), a Diaspora-supported non-profit organization based in Watertown and Yerevan, conducts vitally important environmental projects in Armenia’s impoverished and deforested zones and seeks support in advancing its reforestation mission. Since 1994, ATP has made enormous strides in combating desertification in the biologically diverse but threatened Caucasus region. Over 1,500,000 trees have been planted and restored, and hundreds of jobs have been created for Armenians in seasonal tree-regeneration programs.
ATP works to further Armenia’s economic and social development by mobilizing resources to fund reforestation. These vital new trees provide food, wood, environmental benefits, and opportunities for economic growth. Our goal is to assist the Armenian people in using trees to improve their standard of living and protect the global environment. In so doing, we are guided by the need to promote self-sufficiency, aid those with the fewest resources first, and conserve the indigenous ecosystem.
ATP works on three major program initiatives:
- Planting Trees at Urban and Rural Sites
- Environmental Education and Advocacy
- Community Socioeconomic Development and Poverty Reduction
ATP has a staff of 70 in Armenia. The Yerevan branch manages two state-of-the-art tree nurseries and a largescale reforestation nursery, partners with villagers to create tree-based micro-enterprise opportunities, creates urban green belts for public use, restores degraded forest lands, and employs hundreds of part-time workers to restore forests from stumps.

Investigative Journalists Of Armenia
ACTIVITIES
Hetq online has been published in Yerevan since 2001 by the Association of Investigative Journalists NGO. In 2003 the organization re-registered as the Investigative Journalists NGO. Initially publishing content in Armenian, Hetq Online has also been publishing its articles and investigations in the English language since 2002.
The Hetq online newspaper is updated every Monday and articles are later republished by Aravot, Haykakan Zhamanak, Azg and 168 jam newspapers as well as the Czech-based “Transitions Online” online magazine. Students from the Department of Journalism at Yerevan State University also receive practical experience by working with Hetq online.
Among its many achievements, Hetq online is the first publication in Armenia to adopt a Code of Ethics and every journalist working with us is obliged to follow the principles of this code. In 2004, the Investigative Journalists / Hetq Online received an award from the Armenian branch of Transparency International for its outstanding contribution to the struggle against corruption.
One peculiarity of Hetq online is that journalistic investigations are often conducted by teams — a new practice in Armenian journalism. These teams also work on investigative documentary films for Hetq which are broadcast on different TV stations in the Republic of Armenia.
