PART 2, SECTION 10 – STRATEGIES AND TOOLS REGIONAL LEVEL

USING MODULE 28 IN A TRAINING PROGRAM

THE AFRICAN COMMISSION ON HUMAN AND PEOPLES’ RIGHTS AND ESC RIGHTS

GO TO SECTION I - MODULE 28

The purpose of Module 28 is to examine possibilities for activists to pursue enforcement of ESC rights through access to the African Commission on Human and Peoples’ Rights

This module should help trainees understand/clarify for themselves:

  • ESC rights provisions in the African Charter on Human and Peoples’ Rights; and
  • the African Commission’s monitoring and enforcement responsibilities.

Suggested Methods

The extent of presentation of this module would depend on the group.

¨      Lecture: If the group is not from the African region, a simple lecture presentation on the African Commission on Human and Peoples’ Rights would be sufficient.

¨      Presentation: In the case of a group from the African region, it is important to provide them with information on the African Commission and how it can be effectively used for advancing ESC rights.  An individual who has experience in attending the meetings of the commission and who is familiar with its procedures should be invited to give a talk on the commission.
