Situation in occupied Palestine; Report of the SecretaryGeneral
1. At its fifty-first session the Commission on Human Rights adopted resolution 1995/4, entitled "Situation in occupied Palestine". By this resolution, the Commission, inter alia, called upon Israel to comply with its obligations under the Charter of the United Nations and the principles of international law, and to withdraw from the Palestinian territories, including Jerusalem, and the other Arab territories which it had occupied since 1967 by military force, in accordance with the relevant United Nations resolutions. It requested the SecretaryGeneral to transmit the resolution to the Government of Israel and to all other Governments, to distribute it on the widest possible scale and to make available to the Commission on Human Rights, prior to the convening of its fiftysecond session, all information pertaining to the implementation of the resolution by the Government of Israel.
2. In accordance with these requests, the SecretaryGeneral on 15 May 1995 addressed a note verbale to the Minister for Foreign Affairs of Israel and to all other Governments requesting information pertaining to the implementation of the resolution by the Government of Israel.
3. The Department of Public Information undertook the activities enumerated in document E/CN.4/1996/19, paragraph 4.
4. No reply from Israel had been received at the time of the preparation of the present report.
