The Special Court shall, except as provided in subparagraph (2), have the power to prosecute persons who bear the greatest responsibility for serious violations of international humanitarian law and Sierra Leonean law committed in the territory of Sierra Leone since 30 November 1996, including those leaders who, in committing such crimes, have threatened the establishment of and implementation of the peace process in Sierra Leone (Art. 1, Statute of the Special Court for Sierra Leone)

National Legal Associates Program for Sierra Leonean Lawyers: The minimum qualifications for applicants are a first level degree in law, admission as a legal practitioner in Sierra Leone, and at least two years of professional experience in the field of law. Study or a previous demonstrated interest in one or more of the areas of public international law, international humanitarian law, human rights law and/or criminal law and procedure will be considered as an advantage. Applicants must be nationals of Sierra Leone. Applicants must be proficient in English both written and spoken. Knowledge of local languages will be an advantage in applying for the programme.

Qualifications: Interns in the Registry, Office of the Prosecutor, the Defence Office and Chambers should have a first level degree qualification preferably in law. Study in the area of international humanitarian law will be considered as an advantage.

Interns in the Public Affairs Office, Court Management, Outreach and other offices require no formal qualifications. All interns must be proficient in English both written and spoken. Knowledge of local languages will be an advantage in applying for the programme. Please complete the Application Form in full and return to the Special Court Personnel section, clearly marked 'INTERNSHIP PROGRAMME' to the address overleaf. You will be required to rank in order of preference the three offices in which you would like to work as an intern.
